Tailored Jacket

This dark coloured tailored jacket can be described as sophisticated and elegant, perfect for any formal occasion varying from events such as a job interview or a fancy dinner. It was made for one of Hannah’s university modules where each of them were to create their very own tailored jacket by choosing one of the three design options given to them for choice. The colours of the jacket are inspired by the nature of the forest through their dark, mysterious colours.

Here's what Hannah had to say about the experience and the jacket.

"“It’s been a busy time, but it’s finally the time of the year where my coursework is nearing the end. One of my classes this year was Tailored Jacket and this is my very first attempt at making a tailored jacket, so I’m pretty happy with the final thing. We were given 3 designs to choose from and I chose this one because I thought it looked the least boring, I tried to spice things up with the fabric which I love.”

Wait what is a Tailored Jacket?

To break it down, a tailored jacket uses a fashion technique which is often used in knitwear. It works by using differing threads to woven them together to create a coloured pattern. However, tailored means to be designed in a way that the clothes fit tightly on the body, rather than loosely. With the addition of a tailored jacket, it can sharpen up any look through its smart and sophisticated style, meaning they are mainly designed and used for special occasions. They can also be worn by both male and female.

Hannah's jacket also featured two side pockets, making the jacket functional for keeping small personal items in - such as a mobile phone, purse, etc. It also has three buttons at the front of that coat to fasten it, which again, makes the jacket functional and purposeful. This gives the user the option to have the jacket open or closed for both styling and comfort purposes. Hannah used different fashion techniques throughout the creation of the jacket to create the featured tailored collar and also hems around the edges of jacket in order to create the final garment.

Even thought the outside fabric of the jacket is heavy wool, the inside of the jacket is different. For comfront reasons, Hannah used rayon on the inside of the jacket - which can be described as silk like. As the outside of the jacket is quite rough and uncomfortable, Hannah decided to use rayon on the inside, making it more comfortable for the user. It also makes the jacket look professional from the inside.

This tailored jacket suits well for work, weddings, special occasions or generally for everyday. It can be styled with a long dark brown or black dress with heels for the special occasion, dark coloured suit underneath with small heels for work, or for everyday style, it can work well with a light coloured top, jeans and nude coloured heels - Hannah's favourite pick (the jeans and top featured within the photo were also created by Hannah. You can read more about these in the other blog).
